Explicit Attitudes of Inpatients towards the Treatment in Therapeutic Communities for Drug Addicts

  • Original language description

The aim of this paper is to analyze explicit attitudes of inpatients towards the treatment in three therapeutic communities (TCs) for drug addicts situated in Peru, Nicaragua, and the Czech Republic. A cross-cultural qualitative research was conducted in TCs Takiwasi, Centro de Especialidades en Adicciones (CEA) and Sejřek between 2014 and 2016. In each TC, 10 semi-structured interviews recorded during short-term fieldwork (12 hours in total). The interviews were literally transcribed and analyzed using Grounded Theory method. Specifically, 15 principal coding families selected, and the most frequent coding families were processed through Chi-Square Goodness of Fit Test. Most of these were unique and occurred in one TC only. Based on observation of the median, the coding family Spirituality in the Treatment occurred the most of all, meanwhile Personal Therapist and Cohabitation were least spoken about. The research samples were not significantly different in their explicit attitudes.
