A Contemporary System of Local Self-Government in the Czech Republic
Original language description
This chapter is focused on the evolution of regional administration in the Czech Republic. It describes the discussions concerning decentralisation and regional self-governance, the system of regional self-government and the essential characteristics of territorial self-government units. It also introduces the legislative and other matters that fall within the purview of the regional governments. The chapter presents the comparatively complicated process by which regional self-governance was implemented, and the powers granted to the regions. Regional policy, which is an important part of the agenda of regional assemblies, is introduced and described in detail. The discussion about corruption in regional politics constitutes the concluding chapter.
