Local Government Elections in the Czech Republic - Analysis of the Results of the Last Elections
Original language description
This chapter presents the basic characteristics of regional elections in the Czech Republic. It discusses them using the concept of second-order elections, and the focus is on introducing the electoral system and the evolution of voter turnout since 2000. The second part of the chapter looks more closely at the 2016 elections, describing both the campaigning and the overall results of the election, and then the results per region. It discusses the various processes and trends as pertinent to significant political parties that are represented in the national parliament. Regional assembly results are presented in tables detailing successful political parties that have exercised influence over regional politics since 2016.
