    Distribution and health condition of sweet chestnut (Castanea sativa Mill.) in the Czech Republic

    Sweet chestnut Castanea sativa Mill. is interspersed in the Czech Republic. It is an introduced species. The oldest record about trees at Kamencové jezero near Chomutov gives Balbín in 1679. In the Czech Republic it is recorded roughly from 305 localities at present. The dates about tree position (using GPS), the girth, the total height and the state of health, completion of photography were digitized to the virtual map of sweet chestnut occurrence. Trees grow mainly in parks, gardens, urban vegetationbut also in forest stands. We have only two chestnut orchards in Nasavrky and Chomutov town. A causal agent of quarantine pest chestnut blight, Cryphonectria parasitica (Murrill) Barr (Endothia parasitica (Murr.) And. et And.) appears to be a serious problem of most of chestnut stands in Europe. The fungus was found in the region of the Czech Republic in 2002 in the town of Uherský Brod. Infected tree was treated by the order of State Phytosanitary Administration of the Czech Republic. T

    Kaštanovník jedlý Castanea sativa Mill. je roztroušeně rozšířen na celém území České republiky. Je to převážně dřevina zámeckých zahrad, parků, městské zeleně ale je i součástí lesních porostů na mnoha místech v ČR. Houbový patogen Cryphonectria parasitica (Murrill) Barr představuje velké nebezpečí pro kaštanovníky, u kterých způsobuje rakovinu kůry. U nás byl poprvé zanamenán v Uherském Brodě na jednom jedinci v roce 2002. Další dva nálezy byly potvrzeny na jižní Moravě v roce 2004. Poslední nález tohoto patogena byl kromě kaštanovníků i na dubech.
