The paper is particularly based on information obtained within our participation in the SMALLFORE project (5th General Programme of EU) which was implemented in selected EU countries and in two then nonmember countries, viz in the Czech Republic and Estonia in 2000 to 2002. The project investigated needs of the development of small-scale production technologies and was co-ordinated by the Finnish TTS Institute (Institute for Work Efficiency) in Helsinki. In addition to this, results were used of our ownstudies obtained during realization of the research plan of the Faculty of Forestry and Wood Technology, Brno as well as data from a number of other sources. Then paper gives an overview on the situation in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Hungary,Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia, expresses some common and different features of the problem of management in small forests, presents their survey and gives prospects of small-scale production technologies.

Příspěvek je založen zejména na informacích získaných v rámci naší účasti v projektu SMALLFORE, (5. Rámcový program EU), který byl realizován ve vybraných zemích EU a ve dvou, tehdy ještě nečlenských zemích, a to v České republice a Estonsku, a který bylřešen v létech 2000 až 2002. Projekt zkoumal potřeby vývoje malovýrobních technologií a byl koordinován Finským ústavem TTS (Ústav pro efektivitu práce) v Helsinkách. Dále byly použity výsledky vlastního výzkumu, získané v průběhu řešení výzkumného záměru fakulty a údaje z řady dalších pramenů. Příspěvek podává přehled situace v České republice, Slovensku, Polsku, Maďarsku, Litvě, Lotyšsku a Estonsku, vyjadřuje některé společné i rozdílné rysy problematiky hospodaření v malolesích, podává jejich souhrna vyjadřuje perspektivy malovýrobních technologií.
