More than 12 600 ha of forests in National Park High Tatras, Slovakia were devastated by the extreme wind calamity in September 2004. Ecological damage rised from calamity is valuated by the method of Quantification and Evaluation of Forest Functions (Vyskot I. at al. 2003) The High Tatras are one of most important bath and recreational destinations in Slovakia. The social effect of forests expresses the level of fulfilling social requirements of man for forests. Thus, the way of the social use of forests predominates over ecosystem potentials. Social requirements and use are not also mostly connected to ecosystem units of forests but to particular territories specified by units of the organizational and spatial arrangement of forests.
