Comparison of the Daluxiang and Maoniuping carbonatitic REE deposits with Bayan Obo REE deposit
Original language description
Although carbonatites potentially contain a greater rare earth element (REE) concentration than any rock type, REE mineralization related with carbonatites in the world's largest Bayan Obo deposit is still disputed. To investigate this, carbonatite samples were collected from three large REE deposits in China - Daluxiang, Maoniuping and Bayan Obo. The REE minerals in Daluxiang and Maoniuping carbonatites show consistent light REE (LREE) enrichment (chondrite normalized (La/Nd)N ratios >1). This featureis different to those in Bayan Obo dolomite marble with variable (La/Nd)N ratios. The REE abundances and patterns of REE minerals in Maoniuping carbonatites are similar to those in the vein hosted ores with paragenesis settings. The calcites in Daluxiangand Maoniuping carbonatites are characterized by enrichments of Pb, Sr and REEs and consistent with an igneous origin. They have similar REE contents and patterns to the corresponding bulk rocks, suggesting that these carbonatites may be
