Have Development Stages of Natural Forest Influence to Phytocoenosis?
Original language description
A detailed survey of natural forest in the East Carpathian Mts. (Carpathian Biosphere Reserve) was carried out in 1996--2006. Phytosociological reléves were recorded and forest developmental stages and phases were mapped. We tested the hypothesis that the conditions of the particular developmental stage determine certain plant species composition. We assumed that especially light conditions are directly influenced by the structure of forest layers, which is one of the characteristic attributes of the developmental stages and phases. The hypothesis was verified for the 6th (beech-fir-spruce) forest altitudinal vegetation zone. By means of canonical correspondence analysis (CCA) and species fidelity, the strong relationship between species occurrence andthe particular developmental stage was often found.
