Geoecological concept of fluvial succession series of alluvial biotopes, floodplain forests and ancient woodlands.
Original language description
Dynamic fluvial succession series of alluvial biotopes as a range of water, wetland and terrestrial natural or man made biocoenoses in various stages of succession creating a typical structure of natural alluvial geosystem keeps changing continually thanks to fluvial landscape forming processes. The completeness of the alluvial biotopes series creating the alluvial phenomenon depends on continuous activity of fluvial processes. That includes mainly shifting of river basin thanks to side erosion of riverbanks, sedimentation and erosion processes in river basins and sedimentation processes in the alluvium during floods. From the biodiversity conservation point of view ancient woodlands are of a great importance in alluvial floodplain landscape. Ancient woodlands are forest of coppice origin with a long term continuous development and typical characteristics of old coppice stool forest stands preserved. They are above all: coppiced stumps and pollarded stumps with coppice stools, pollarded
