Dating and properties of subfossil oak wood
Original language description
The research results of dendrochronological dating of subfossil trunks and determination of their selected physical and mechanical properties are presented in this paper. The main goal is to extend the standard oak chronology (since 462 AD to present) backwards. At areas of the Czech Republic a systematically survey of occurrence of subfossil trunks and sampling of these trunks is in process. Attention is concentrated especially on the river-basin of large czech rivers, gravel-pits and sandpits. The samples were dendrochronologically processed and average tree-ring curves were compared with standard chronologies of Germany, Austria and Poland. In the event that dating with accessible European standard chronologies failed samples will be date using radiocarbon method. By continuous connection of floating tree-ring curves and the following absolute dating the Czech standard oak chronology will be extended. Selected properties were examined in accordance with the valid Czech technical sta
