Influence of physical and mechanical wood properties on cutting forces during drilling
Original language description
Influence of chosen physical (humidity, density) and mechanical properties (strength in static bending, strength in compression along the grains, modulus of elasticity in compression along the grains) was presented in this work. Mechanical tests were carried out on universal 10 tons testing machine. Drilling was gone through with machining center equipped with one edge drill made from polycrystaline diamond. Tool had diameter 10 mm and was brand new. Cutting resistance (torque M and thrust force Fz) were measured by means of piezoelectric dynamometer. Machining with constant cutting parameters took place across the grains. Density of wood, modulus of elasticity in bending and strength in compression along the grains have the biggest influence on levelof thrust force. However, modulus of elasticity in compressions along the grains and strength in static bending affected the torque the most.
