Alternatives in determining the cutting resistance during machining of agglomerated materials
Original language description
This paper presents a comparison of computing the specific cutting resistance using a conventional method and a new computing model that is based on the application of fracture mechanics in the practice of processing wood-based materials with a circularsaw blade. The model makes use of fracture mechanics to determine the fracture toughness and shear yield strength of the workpiece. The forces acting on the workpiece and the tool are determined with elaborating the Ernst-Merchant theory in the practiceof cutting with a circular saw blade.
