The process of transition from industrial to post-industrial society identified in land use and land cover data: Case of the Czech Republic
Original language description
Sophisticated land use and land cover geodatabases keeping records of industrial heritage sites and buildings are maintained in the Czech Republic. Other data sources enable purposive interpretation with the objective of obtaining further information onthe past (and present) impacts of industrial and mining activity on the landscape. Available data sources then, to a considerable degree, allow the identification of such concentrations of industrial heritage buildings and sites, where a modern landscapecharacteristic of its special type of functioning and appearance is formed. Such concentrations of all types of industrial heritage objectively exist and may be referred to as post-industrial landscapes. A detailed methodology of identifying post-industrial landscapes in the Czech Republic has been developed for these purposes utilizing tools of GIS.
