Methods for establishing the volume of cleft fuelwood

The paper presents characteristics of selected methods for establishing the volume of cleft fuelwood stacked in piles and bulk in containers of three different sizes. Reference standard for evaluating the accuracy of results achieved by individual methods was the volume of input material prior to splitting. Conversion coeffi cients were ascertained for establishing the volume of bulk cleft wood poured into containers and cleft wood stacked in piles. Dependence was found of the conversion coeffi cient on some factors (measuring vessel volume, length of billets and split billets). The coeffi cient value for establishing the volume of 30 cm long bulk billets and split billets is for example 0.498, 0.469 and 0.503 for the container sized 5, 2.5 and 1.25 m3, respectively. For stacked wood (length of billets and split billets 30 cm), the coeffi cient was 0.755. Comparing the results of cleft wood volume determination by using the hitherto and newly established coeffi cients, it is possible to claim that the use of the newly established coeffi cients yielded higher accuracies.
