Original language description
The importance of reservoir bank stabilization becomes obvious at the moment of its putting into full operation, i.e. when the waterwork is filled up to its maximum level of controllable retention capacity. In bank areas susceptible to erosion, a nucleus of a future wave-cut notch immediately starts forming. If this condition is left without implementing bank stabilization, the wave-cut notch will develop into major bank erosion in several months or years, with subsequent washing of thousands of cubic metres of the bank material to the dam.
