    Using Optical Techniques in Tree Stability Assessment

    Assessment of mechanical behavior and safety of trees have received considerable attention in recent years, in both research and practice. The research - tree biomechanics - mostly focuses on evaluation of tree mechanical response that is also dependent onwood properties. The goal of this study was to investigate a mechanical response of a tree to bending moment using advanced optical techniques based on full-field measurement (digital image correlation, DIC). Full-field measurements showed that strain can be measured on tree bark, though the bark reduces the transfer of strain from the xylem to bark surface.
