The effects of time and gap size on the growth dynamics of different naturally regenerated tree species were studied within nine artificial gap openings (with size: 226-1,291 m2) between 2016 and 2019 at Habrůvka Forest District Křtiny, Czech Republic. In 2016, tree species exhibited promising regeneration while in 2019, general poor regeneration performances were noticed among the 12 overall encountered species. Mean regeneration density declined sharply from 6,501 trees/ha in 2016 to 1,343 trees/ha during 2019. Predominant Fagus sylvatica-Picea abies species were abundantly present in gaps, whereas dominant and non-dominant species experienced limiting regeneration. Shade-tolerant, intermediate and light demanding species were significantly (p < 0.05) promoted in small, medium and large gaps.
