Dynamics of changes of the soil environment due to drought stress at fertile sites of lower altitudes

  • Original language description

Drought, as one of the indicators of current climate change, is a slowly evolving phenomenon whose impacts affect the territory of Europe, including the Czech Republic. Lloyd-Hughes [1] states that drought is an extreme weather event that is primarily caused by a precipitation deficit or an unbalanced water balance. However, soil moisture is an indispensable part of the terrestrial ecosystem and is associated with different hydrological processes and ecological functions in different soil layers [2]. The physical mechanisms underlying the above processes can be achieved by changes in the interaction of soil moisture and atmosphere [3]. Liu et al. [4] state that the soil properties are not only determined by the wood species, but they are the result of the relationship between the forest stand and its environment. From the literature review, it is clear that drought mainly affects the chemical and biological properties of the soil. Physical properties are expected to have minimal changes due to drought, but there is scarce information available about it. To increase our knowledge about changes of the soil environment of a Norway spruce stand due to precipitation-moisture stress [1] the climatic data and [2] the regularly soil analyses were evaluated. The impact of changes on the [3] biometric parameters of the above-ground parts of Norway spruces was assessed.
