An Overview of Nanotechnology in Agroforestry Systems

  • Original language description

The field of nanotechnology is rapidly developing with diverse applications in medicine, biotechnology, electronics, energy, agriculture, and environmental remediation. Agroforestry is emerging as a viable option for managing the land-use systems. The use of nanomaterials or nanoproducts is undoubtedly increasing to manage the resources of modern agriculture. For the concurrent production of crops and trees, a targeted delivery approach is essential. Nano-based formulations are used in tree-crop systems for meeting nutrient requirements, controlling pests, improving tolerance to environmental stresses, reducing pollution, etc. to attain food security at the global level. However, technological innovation should be assessed for fate and potential risks as a part of sustainable landscape management. Statistical techniques have a vital role in speeding up the research and development cycle of nanoscience. In this chapter, we attempted to provide a brief synopsis regarding the prospects of nanoparticle application in agroforestry systems.
