Less wide-spread fruit species are easy to grow and they regularly bear fruit of high biological value. At the gene pool plot of the Faculty of Horticulture MUAF Brno there are concentrated many varieties and genotypes of selected fruit species: quince (Cydonia oblonga Mill), sea buckthorn (Hippophae rhamnoides L.), cornelian cherry (Cornus mas L.), blue honeysuckle (Lonicera caerulea L.). These genetic resources are evaluated according to their morphologic and commercial characteristics and health condition. On the basis of the obtained results the varieties with optimal specific properties are selected (higher resistance to frost, better storability, high yield etc.). On the basis of the evaluated properties of varieties or genotypes it is possible to decide about their use for commercial purposes, for canning industry, as a source of properties for breeding, as a reclamation species etc.

Na genofondové ploše ZF MZLU Brno je soustřeďováno množství odrůd a genotypů vybraných ovocných druhů: kdoule obecná (Cydonia oblonga Mill), rakytník řešetlákový (Hippophae rhamnoides L.), dřín obecný (Cornus mas L.), zimolez jedlý (Lonicera caerulea L.). Tyto genetické zdroje jsou hodnoceny z hlediska morfologických a hospodářských znaků a zdravotního stavu. Na základě získaných výsledků jsou vybírány odrůdy s optimálními specifickými vlastnostmi (vyšší mrazuodolnost, lepší skladovatelnost, vysoká plodnost a další). Na základě vyhodnocených vlastností odrůd či genotypů je možný způsob využití pro hospodářské účely, konzervárenské zpracování, zdroj vlastností pro šlechtění, rekultivační dřevina apod.
