Fruit develop intercellular CO2 concentrations sufficiently elevated above the atmospheric level to result in significant metabolite effects. Subsequently, it has been found that while applied CO2 often inhibits O2 consumption, at other times, dependingon the tissue and concentration. Depending on its concentration, CO2 may stimulate or inhibit ethylene production. Normally, succinct is a minor organic acid, but it accumulates in commodities then they are stored with carbon dioxide. CO2 causes succinctto accumulate when it injures apples.
