Landscape character assessment and protection is a tool which can make a significant contribution to the objectives that relate to conservation of regional cultural values. Remarkable overgrowth of the urban structures into the land, recently un-built, is considered to be characteristic for the regional development in the Czech Republic during last years. A number of new ecological, social and economical processes are initiated in the suburban zones, without any clear-cut concept of their future impact.This article seeks to draw attention to growing urban sprawl problem likewise from the landscape character protection point of view.
