Regulation of Yield and Market Quality of Watermelons
Original language description
We studied watermelon cultivation Irom direct sowing and Irom seedlings, the effect of mulching with black polyethylene film and black non-woven fabrics during three years of experiments. Watermelons grown from transplants reached about 1.2 -18.7 t.ha-1higher yield than those from direct sowing cultivation. The first fruit harvest was about 20 - 26 days earlier in the cultivation of young plants than from direct sowing. The efficiency of mulching with black non-woven fabrics and black polyethylene filmfolia mulch on yield and maturity was higher in less optimal temperature conditions. Average results of three-years experiment points out that the cultivation with the PE mulch and non woven fabric caused the average harvest of first class fruits quality higher by 2 - 6 % and mean harvest higher by 3.41 - 6.61 t.ha-1. Within three years, the using of PE mulching provided earlier harvest of first fruits of about 9 to 24 days and non-woven fabric mulching enabled earlier harvest of 10 to
