Brief survey on the grant project. Sponsor: Grant Agency of the Czech Republic. Efforts to be independent of peat, a non-renewable resource, represents, among other things, a recent European trend in the rationalisation of nursery technologies. Althoughat present the marked is flooded with top-quality peat from Baltic republics (especially from Belarus), the European growers are looking for substitution. Research is focusing on the use of organic by-products, especially of wood residues. The pThe basicidea is production of top-quality nursery products and simultaneous cost reduction, resulting from a combination of technology for production of plants in the field and that in containers. This project will support the introduction of new cultiIt is also planned to use new, progressive products, for instance the soil conditioner TerraCottem or slow release fertilisers of the Silvamix series.
