Nature reserve Knehyne - spatial database and tree health status assessment. 1st Workshop of the EARSeL Special Interest Group on Remote Sensing for Developing Countries, Proceedings
Original language description
Spatial database for the Knehyne Reserve was created using Czech PC oriented GIS and image-processing system PhoTOPOL. Forest management maps were digitised and linked with numerical data of the management plan. Digital elevation model (DEM) and orthophotographs were computed using colour infrared (CIR) aerial photographs at a scale of 1:7000, and for the whole reserve using using CIR aerial photographs at a scale of 1:13500. Tree damage was classified according to the single-tree crown classifideveloped for several tree species in the European Community countries (Hildebrandt 1991). Interpretation key for spruce (Picea abies) - especially its comb type - was used. Intepretation results were compared with results of terrestrial assessment of trappliedin the country. Results represent a valuable tool for area analyses, for site classification, and for exact localisation of research activities in the Knehyne territory.
