Original language description
The aim of study was to investigate negative effects of drought and late frosts in relation to the level of mineral nutrition of Norway spruce needles. In vegetation periods, nitrogen and magnesium concentrations were affected (decreased) the most by thedrought, contents of phosphorus and potassium were affected to a smaller extent. The first and the second needle year classes showed decreased contents of nitrogen, magnesium and potassium, falling bellow minimum sufficient levels. It took one or more years to restore a sufficient to optimum level of mineral nutrition, depending on stress intensity. Repeated weakening of trees results in premature ageing and predisposes the stands to fungal and insect attacks.
