The paper informs of important changes in the forest ownership after 1989.Restitutions and return of forests to their original owners, both natural persons and municipalities, resulted in the rise of non-state forest up to 36,6 % of forest land in the Czech Republic. The repeated sectioning of large stretches of forests into small plots brough problems in terms of efficient management. State forest policy supports the association of small private forest owners . into larget units.The paper deals with the ogging machinery used in the non-state sector for felling operations, skidding and haulage. Chapter on the skidding machinery - small wheeled tractors include some technical and performance parameters. Data on the production and assembly of logging machinery in the Czech Republic hold for the years 1997 - 1999
