Mechanical properties of Norway maple (Acer platanoides L.) wood at different moisture and physiological activity
Original language description
The work is aimed to learn possible differences between the mechanical properties of living wood (in a few hours after felling) and wood with moisture above the fibre saturation point too, but without any living cell. Theory supposed no influence of livingness of the wood. Also the theory supposes no statistically significant changes in mechanical properties of wood above the fibre saturation point. In the work of Dr. Lothar Wessolly is postulated to measure the mechanical properties of wood in living state, because of changes of the mechanical behaviour of the dead wood. To learn the differences the compression test of the small clear specimens from wood of the Norway maple - Acer platanoides parallel to the grains in the living state and in the wet state had been carried out. Founded values of modulus of elasticity, maximal strength and the ultimate strain were statistically evaluated and compared.
