The paper is focused on analysis of the food industry function in the agri-food chain from increasing of agricultural enterprises competitiveness point of view. It indicates the difference between the supply oriented and the demand oriented approach to competitiveness of agriculture. It demonstrates, that the agriculture for 21st century cannot be separated from the food policy and has to be largely demand oriented. The considerable part of food industry of manufacturing sector and the component of thetrade position of agribusiness are analysed there
