Two localities in central Europe (Žabčice in the Czech Republic and Gross-Enzesdorf in Austria) were chosen to compare the impact of water stress in particular wheat growth stages on winter wheat production under different climate change scenarios by usiThree scenarios based on single GCMs (ECHAM, HadCM-2, NCAR DOE-PCM) and the fourth scenario was averaged over seven GCMs. The water stress indicators were modelled for five wheat growth stages under the present and modified at both locations after successful parameterization and validation of the model. Simulated stress indicators and duration of growing stages were correlated with simulated grain yield. There was found a significant decrease of water stress together with an increase of the yields in 2xCO2 atmosphere. The duration of the growing period decreased at both sites (7-8 days).
