Influence of polymorphism of MYOGENIN gene on growth and meat efficiency in pigs
Original language description
The myogenin (MYF4) gene was described in several studies as a candidate gene for meat efficiency in pigs. The influence of myogenin gene polymorphism on meat efficiency in population of 120 Large White pigs was analysed in this study. All data of genotyped (PCR-RFLP) pigs were collected and analysed using GLM procedure. Genotype frequencies detected were 0.3, 0.49 and 0.21 for AA, AB and BB genotypes, respectively. The significant association between AB and BB genotypes in different body weights duringthe test, body weight before slaughter and average daily gain were observed. The pigs of BB genotypes were non-significantly better for average daily gain in test, feed intake for 1 kg of gain in test and muscle thickness than pigs of A and AB genotypes.
