Molecular analysis of outgrowth of axillary buds of pea
Original language description
Apical dominance is a dominance of the shoot apex over the axillary buds. It is well-known that auxin accumulated in the apex is transported towards the roots by polar transport. The mechanism, whereby polar auxin transport in the shoot regulates outgrowth of axillary buds, is unknown. One of the possibilities is that shoot auxin transport inhibits connection of the buds onto shoot vascular elements and inhibits polarization of the cells. To study the role of genes involved in polar auxin transport in our model plant - pea, we tried to find homologous genes for auxin cell membrane transporters (PIN1 and AUX1). Further we studied the influence of exogenous application of plant hormones (auxin and cytokinin) on the expression pattern of a gene already known to play a role in axillary bud dormancy - PsDRM1. Northern blot analyses using DIG-labeled probes were used to follow the time course of gene expression of PsDRM1 in axillary pea buds after decapitation.
