The warm-term pathogen Macrophomina phaseolina (Tassi) Goid had never been reported from Czech republic before 1999. In that year and in 2000 and 2001, it was quite common on sunflower in the Žatec region. Yield risk, pathogen survival in the soil and possible control are discussed.
