A contribution to the effect of liming on forest soils: review of literature
Original language description
Extensive forest areas were in the past years ameliorated by liming to prevent acidification and degradation of forest soils. The knowledge about liming on forest soils still appears insufficient for an judgement. Sorption properties of soils and acidityare favourably affected by liming. Reduction of soil acidity stimulates development of bacterial component of microflora, soil edaphon, and good pre-requisites are formed for the release of nutrients from soil organic matter. Improvement of some physical parameters and negative effect on the rooting in spruce, availability of nutrientswere described, too. A key point of liming effect on forest soils is nitrogen. Mineralization of nitrogen is stimulated on nitrogen-rich sites. Nitrogen-limited sites show nitrogen mineralization inhibited by liming with signs of deficiency in nutrition. Positive effect on the nutrition with bases is accompanied by an influence on N dynamics.
