Wild board - a potential source of zoonotic agents
Original language description
A total of 242 blood sera of the wild boar specimens from various hunting areas of the south Moravian region shot during years 2001 to 2003 were examined serologically for leptospirosis, brucellosis and tularemia. Leptospiral antibodies were found in 14.4% of cases. Only the L. grippotyphosa serotype has been detected. Considering brucellosis and tularaemia, antibodies were found in 6.6 and 10.7% of cases, respectively. Antibodies against the above mentioned zoonoses were found in specimens from all years of study and all age groups. The presence of antibodies witnesses for the susceptibility of the wild boar to the infection by these agents and their role in the spread and maintenance of natural foci. The role of infected wild boar individuals as possible sources of infection for humans remains in question.
