  • Original language description

Syndrome dysphagia together with colic is one of the most common problems in equine veterinary medicine. Dysphagia can be caused by oral, pharyngeal or esophageal functional or morphological disorders. Oral dysphagia can be presented as a slow or painfulchewing and dropping the feed from the oral cavity. Pharyngeal and esophageal dysphagia is presented by painful swallowing and it is typically by regurgitation of chewed food through the nostrils. The upper airway contamination causes aspiration of foodand saliva into the trachea, coughing and possible development of aspiration pneumonia.
