Does dietary starch have an impact on Balantidium coli infections in captive chimpanzees?
Original language description
Although the infections by Balantidium coli in humans were recognised more than one and half century ago, many aspects of the epidemiology or mechanisms of pathogenicity remain unknown. Infections are asymptomatic in most hosts, but in humans and captiveAfrican great apes clinical infections manifested mainly by dysentery occasionaly occur. We studied the effect of dietary starch on the intensities of infectioon by B. coli in 2 groups of captive chimpanzees from the Hodonin Zoo and the Brno Zoo, Czechrepublic.
