Noggin can mimic BMPs effects on early neural crest-derived mesenchyme
Original language description
Bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) antagonist, Noggin has previously been shown to induce a transformation of the maxillary prominence into the frontonasal mass (Lee et al. 2001) consisting of an ectopic cartilage in the palate, a supernumerary egg tooth and transformation of the maxillary bone to a premaxilla. Here we have extended this work to show that antagonists such as Follistatin or Chordin were unable to induce the striking skeletal changes.
