Necator and Ancylostoma
Original language description
Ancylostomatidae comprises two subfamilies, Ancylostominae and Bunostominae represented by Ancylostoma duodenale (more species described in humans) and four species of genus Necator which have been recorded from African great apes. These parasites are typical intestinal pathogens of broad spectrum of the mammals, great apes and humans included. They are mostly diagnosed based on the eggs present in the fresh feces or L3 larvae developed in coprocultures. For exact species determination the adult worms or molecular methods are necessary.
