Original language description
Several species parasitize in intestine of vertebrates. Two species have been proved from African great apes and can be shared with humans: Strongyloides stercoralis and S. fuelleborni. Both direct and indirect ways are present in the life cycle. Parasitic parthenogenetic females live in small intestine while adult worms of both sex are free living. S. fuelleborni is common in free-ranging and captive chimpanzees, bonobos and gorillas; S. stercoralis is less common, however typical for humans.
