    Ex-vivo evaluation of cytotoxicity of alginate matrices as a carrier for colon delivery systém

    Alginate as a polymer specifically biodegradable by colonic bacterial enzymes was used for the preparation of basic matrix for colon targeting. The external ionic gelation was used as a method of preparation and Ca2+, Zn2+ and their mixture were used as cross-linking ions. The safety of internal administration of prepared samples has been determined by the ex-vivo cytotoxicity evaluation. A slight decrease of the TC50 was achieved after treatment using the ion mixture.
