The early development of teeth and tooth formula in heterodont and homodont dentition in eutherians.
Original language description
Heterodont dentition in eutherians is interspecifically very variable in terms of the number and shape of teeth. Differences of odontogenesis were observed in homodont (dolphin) and heterodont (vole, sheep) dentition. In comparison with heterodont dentition of terrestrial mammals, the number and shape of tooth primordia in dolphins have undergone extreme modification. The dental lamina appeared regularly segmented. However, the other initial steps of tooth development in the dolphin, vole and sheep weresimilar.
