Endogenous development of Hemolivia mauritanica (Apicomplexa: Adeleina: Haemogregarinidae) in marginated tortoise Testudo marginata (Reptilia: Testudinidae): evidence from experimental infection.
Original language description
Six young tortoises Testudo marginata Schoepff, 1792 were experimentally infected by Hemolivia mauritanica (Sergent et Sergent, 1904) with prepatent period ranging over 6-8 weeks. Young, smaller, club-like forms (6-9 ´ 3-6 ?m) of gametocytes appeared inthe peripheral blood first, whereas mature, elongated, cylindrical forms (9-12 ´ 5-7 ?m) were detected after 1-2 weeks and predominate later during patency. Three of the infected tortoises were dissected to study the endogenous stages. Meronts occurred in the cells of reticulo-endothelial system and in the erythrocytes, mostly in parenchymatous organs, mature forms measured in average 14.2 ´ 9.3 ?m and contained 7-12 merozoites. Cysts with two (exceptionally one) cystozoites were also found mostly in parenchymatous organs and measured in average 14.8 ´ 7.9 ?m. Pathological changes attributable to Hemolivia were very mild and were limited to liver and kidneys. Role of individual developmental stages of haemogregarines is discussed with r

Czech description
Šest mladých želv Testudo marginata Schoepff, 1792 bylo experimentálně infikováno parazitem Hemolivia mauritanica (Sergent et Sergent, 1904) s prepatentní periodou 6-8 týdnů. Mladé, menší formy (6-9 ´ 3-6 ?m) gametocytů se objevily v periferní krvi první, zatímco dospělé, podlouhlé formy (9-12 ´ 5-7 ?m) byly detekovány později po1-2 týdnech a dominovaly později v průběhu patence. Meronty se vyskytovaly v buňkách RES occurred in the cells of reticulo-endothelial system and in the erythrocytes, mostly inparenchymatózních orgánů, dospělé mšřily v průměru14.2 krát 9.3 ?m a obsahovbaly 7-12 merozoitů.
