Poor welfare is the cause of high mortality among hens and roosters transported to poutry processing plants. In the Czech Republic, death rates among hens and roosters in transport to poultry slaughter plants were monitored between 1997 and 2004, and their total mortality rate was in the 0.925% ? 0.479 range. Death rates among hens and roosters were influenced by the transport distance to poultry processing plants. Higher mortality rates were ascertained during the cold months of the year, specificallyin October through to April.

Vliv přepravní vzdálenosti a ročního období na mortalitu slepic a kohoutů při přepravě drůbeže na jatky v období 1997-2004.

Czech description

V důsledku zhoršeného welfare při přepravě na jatky dochází k častým úhynům slepic a kohoutů. V období let 1997 až 2004 byly v České republice sledovány úhyny slepic a kohoutů v souvislosti s přepravou na jatky. Celková úroveň úhynů byla zjištěna 0,925 ?0,479 %. Přepravní vzdálenost na jatky měla vliv na úhyny slepic a kohoutů. Procento uhynulých slepic a kohoutů pro přepravní vzdálenost do 50 km 0,592 ? 0,575 % stoupalo až do přepravní vzdálenosti do 300 km, kde dosáhlo hodnoty 1,638 ? 0,952 %. Na počty úhynů přepravovaných nosnic mělo vliv také roční období. K vyšším úhynům došlo v chladnějších měsících, zejména v říjnu, listopadu, prosinci, lednu, únoru, březnu a dubnu.
