Residues of selected organohalogen pollutants in the South Moravian Rivers, Czech Republic
Original language description
The presented paper deals with the aquatic ecosystem contamination by selected organohalogen pollutants residues in the South Moravian Region. Indicator congeners of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), which are still included in the group of priority pollutants, were selected as monitored contaminants. The aim of this study was to detect PCBs in the selected area, to assess the levels of examined contaminant residues using statistical methods, and to indicate potential pollution sources of chosen rivers.Selected contaminants were monitored in the surface water, bottom sediment and aquatic plants of the Svratka and the Svitava Rivers, both flowing through the Brno City. Target analytes were isolated from the abovementioned matrices using an optimized method based on liquid-liquid extraction and cold extraction. Column chromatography was included for the purification of extracts during the pre-analytical sample preparation. Identification and quantification of the selected analytes were
