Original language description
In total, 579 individuals of fifty species of hummingbirds have been investigated for ectoparasites. Collecting was conducted in years 2004 to 2014 on various locations in Costa Rica, Brazil, Paraguay, Peru, and Honduras. Sixty-two hummingbirds of 20 species have been parasitized at least with one of their four known genera of lice: Leremenopon (1), Myrsidea (2), Trochiloecetes (44) and Ricinus/Trochiliphagus (14) including 24 of 28 host-louse association as new records, possibly some new species. In two hosts were found lice of the genus Menacanthus, which is considered to be a straggler.
