Bats as another potential source of murine gammaherpesvirus 68 (MHV-68) in nature
Original language description
Currenty, there is only limited information on herpesviruses and bats, and while all three subfamilies of herpesviruses have been detected in bats around the world, their biology is not well studied. The aim of presented study was to look for the presence of MHV-68 in blood samples from bats using serological and direct detection methods. This is the first time that the presence of MHV-68 was confirmed in the territory of Ukraine, thereby expanding the area of its occurrence. Our results suggest that bats are another species of animals, which can serve as a reservoir of MHV-68 and can play an important role in ecology of this virus.
