Interaction of 131I radionuclide and cadmium chloride in an alternative bioassay on Artemia franciscana
Original language description
This paper deals with the interaction of radionuclide 131I and cadmium chloride. The interaction has been investigated using an alternative bioassay employing crustacean Artemia franciscana. 50 individuals were placed in each Petri dish. The evaluation of the experiment was carried out using a digital recording taken by a camera, since the total activity in all Petri dishes was approximately 30 MBq. It was found that lethality was lower in the group containing only 131I radionuclide. This finding supports the theory of radiation hormesis. The group containing the cadmium solution 0.250 mmol?L-1 and the group containing the cadmium solution with the added radionuclide did not show any significant difference in lethality. In the group containing cadmium solution and higher activity concentration of 131I radionuclide, lethality was significantly higher than in the control group.
