A kite Milvus migrans migrans/lineatus in Ukraine
Original language description
A kite designated Milvus migrans migrans/lineatus was observed and photographed near the village of Zhornyska in Yavorivskyi District, Lviv Region, Ukraine several times between 10 and 17 May 2018. This is the first well documented observation in Ukraine of a kite presumably originated from a large hybrid zone between black kites Milvus migrans migrans and black-eared kites Milvus migrans lineatus. Its occurrence in Ukraine possibly coincides with spreading of both a breeding area of black-eared kites and of a hybridization zone between black kites and black-eared kites from Western Siberia to the west.
