Analysis of the main violations detected by the State Veterinary Administration in the area of cattle welfare

  • Original language description

In the Czech Republic, cattle are the most common individually registered livestock. Increased demandson cattle performance must be supported by ensuring appropriate breeding conditions that directly affect animal welfare. The aim of this paper is to identify the main shortcomings found in the field of cattle welfare in the years 2016 – 2020 and to evaluate the trend of registered violations during the observed period. For the purposes of the analysis, data from the Central Veterinary Administration of the State Veterinary Administration were used, containing data from control records of violated control points from the period 2016 – 2020. For this paper, control points were divided into two main groups and nine subgroups according to focus. Based on the results, the most statistically significant (P < 0.05) violations were found in the area of administration and labeling of animals (484), provision of treatment (360), spatial conditions (256), nutrition and water intake (216) and animal hygiene conditions (211). The difference in the frequency of violations between the main control point groups “obligations of the breeder” (888) and “breeding conditions” (820) was not statistically significant (P > 0.05). The evaluation of the trend of violated control points did not show an increase or decrease in detected defects during the observed period.
